How the numbers are worked out

Numerology is an old tradition for reflection, not a science: the numbers are a way to look at yourself, and they don't decide anything.

The table: Pythagorean numerology: A, J and S count 1; B, K and T 2; C, L and U 3; D, M and V 4; E, N and W 5; F, O and X 6; G, P and Y 7; H, Q and Z 8; I and R 9.
Your name: Accents are dropped, so É counts as E and Ñ as N. Spaces and hyphens split a name into parts; apostrophes don't. Letters outside A to Z aren't counted, and the page says which.
Vowels: A, E, I, O and U, and Y when no vowel follows it in that part of the name: the Y in Mary and Lynn counts as a vowel, the Y in Yolanda and Maya doesn't. W always counts as a consonant.
Adding up: Each part of the name, and the month, day and year of the date, is reduced on its own, then added. Reducing means adding the digits until one is left.
Master numbers: Eleven, twenty-two and thirty-three are master numbers and are kept, not reduced. The personal cycle numbers always come down to one to nine.
Karmic debt: When a number is reached through thirteen, fourteen, sixteen or nineteen, the tradition calls it a karmic debt number, and the page notes it.
